Silk Mark Expo Concluded with Great Success
Silk Mark Organization of India (SMOI) held a successful βSilk Mark Expoβ with the support of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The Expo was inaugurated by Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Minister of State for Textiles and Railways. According to her, Central Silk Board has ushered in a new regime to ensure that silk products carry specific markings about their contents for pro-consumer information.
The expo featured participation of 39 exhibitors from 12 states. The goal of the Expo was to increase domestic and international recognition of the Indian Silk brand. In this backdrop Jardosh elaborated that it is crucial to hold such exhibitions to promote economic independence of women weavers and other workers in the silk industry and preserve our cultural heritage.
Among those present at the opening ceremony were Upendra Prasad Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles (MOT), and Rajit Ranjan Okhandiar, IFS, Chief Executive Officer & Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board.
