It’s All About The ‘Korean Wave
The Korea Fair in India 2022 (KFI), an exhibition that promotes Korea’s consumer goods was held from November 17-20, 2022, at Express Avenue Mall, Chennai. Organized by the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA, Chennai) in association with the Hon’ble Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, the Korea Tourism Organisation, the InKo Centre, the Korea association in Chennai, and Express Avenue Mall – the fair followed the theme ‘Korean Wave: Made in Korea, loved in India.’
With a footfall of approximately 8 lakh ‘K-culture’ enthusiasts, and 20 exhibitors, the Korean products on display ranged from health and beauty, electronics, food and beverage, fashion, and jewelry. This, in addition to cultural performances, food tastings, contests, games, and quizzes – the show kept visitors and attendees engaged at the event.
Young-Seup Kwon (Kwon), Hon’ble Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai said, “India and the Republic of Korea share strong commercial ties. The bilateral relations have made great strides in recent years, thanks to a significant convergence of interests, mutual goodwill, and high-level exchanges. The bilateral trade between India and Korea reached US$ 23.7 billion in 2021, the highest-ever trade volume between the two countries, representing a 40 percent increase over the previous year's US$ 16.9 billion.” In this context, he said that initiatives such as KFI 2022 will further boost bilateral trade while paving the way for importers, distributors, and mall operators in India to make the most of Korean innovations.
The event came to a successful close as Jihwan Eun, Director General, KOTRA Chennai, said, “Over 20 Korean companies have benefited from marketing their products in Chennai with the support of their Indian partners. Indian businesses can explore ways to establish ties with Korean companies.” A key feature at the show was a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) desk for the promotion of trade relations.
