Getting Back to Books at Covid Centre
It is a throwback to the good old times of pre-internet days for Covid patients admitted in CIDCO exhibition ground. A full-fledged library has been set up by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) with support from Letโs Read India foundation to enable patients to access books.
Amongst the numerous medical facilities that one may find at a Covid care centre, a library is something which would be least expected and this is what makes the NMMC centre quite unique. Patients confined to their beds without any sorts of entertainment can read books and perhaps momentarily forget of being โpatientsโ.
Unable to move out as free birds, inmates at the facility are passing their time reading books and gaining knowledge. In this backdrop Abhijeet Bangar, Chief of NMMC said that they set up the library to wean away negative sentiments among patients and engage them in reading.
Concurring with Bangarโs thoughts, Prafulla Wankhede of Let's Read Foundation said that it is likely that patients may find it difficult to come to terms with the fact that they are affected, especially when they are isolated from their families, the more will be the negative sentiments. Reading books will give them solace and divert their attention from the disease.
