Frankfurt Luminale 2020 takes digital route
Frankfurt Luminale, a huge art exhibition and music festival, which is held biennially, is all set to go digital this year amidst COVID-19 lockdown. Organised once every two years since 2002, this cultural festival of light art is one of the major tourist attractions and the largest cultural events of Frankfurt and Offenbach.
The festival draws around 250,000 visitors, but this year, itโs going to be different. The Luminale, which was supposed to be held in 2020, has gone digital given the pandemic situation. Most of the artists participating in the festival already gave up their projects because of the virus. However, the visuals that were documented for the festivalโs final rehearsals along with behind the scenes tour are now available digitally for the world to see and enjoy.
The theme of 2020 is also quite interesting and is called Digital Romantic, which discovers the connection between the Romantic era of art and the digital revolution. Luminale is a festival where light is used as medium and the muse too.
On their website, they stated, โThe Luminale has been held in Frankfurt and Offenbach at two-yearly intervals since 2002. Originally established by Messe Frankfurt as an accompanying event to Light + Building, the world's leading trade fair for lighting and building technology, the Biennial is now one of the largest cultural events in the City of Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region with around 250,000 visitors and 150 projects.โ
