First-ever Digital Yoga Exhibition Showcases History and Best Practices
On the occasion of International Day of Yoga 2022, the ministry of Ayush organized an exhibition at Mysuru’s Dasara ground to showcase the ever-increasing global impact of the evolving ancient practice. The two-day exhibition was inaugurated on June 21 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had previously led a mass Yoga demonstration at Mysore Palace. Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai joined the Prime Minister.
The exhibition featured both digital and static elements. The first-ever ‘Digital Yoga Exhibition’ promoted Yoga using the latest technologies, including augmented reality (AR), which challenged visitors to practice Yoga correctly. Visitors at the Digital Yoga Exhibition learned about the history and benefits of Yoga, while kids participated in ‘Yoga with Modi Ji’, a digital tool where they followed a graphic animation of the prime minister performing various asanas. The digital exhibition also featured ‘Get Healthy with Yoga’. Sensors calculated people’s Body Mass Index (BMI) and suggested asanas based on their category.
The exhibition also highlighted the ministry of Ayush’s major initiatives, such as the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat, for which Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone in April of this year. Among the other significant initiatives highlighted at the exhibition were Sowa Rigpa, Yoga as a competitive sport, and the development of standards for Ayush systems.
