Many companies are now hoping for relaxed drone operation regulations by 2026, which would allow them to use drones for medical deliveries, e-commerce, agriculture, and more. Medical deliveries by drones are gradually gaining traction in certain regions, with startups increasingly focusing on the healthcare sector. These drones are used to transport lab samples, life-saving medications, and other emergency supplies for fast, efficient deliveries.
Under the Drone Rules 2021, companies with the necessary permits and licenses can utilize drone technology for a range of sectors, including healthcare, e-commerce, agriculture, defence, and construction. Startups told ET that 15-20% of their revenue currently comes from healthcare logistics, with expectations for growth in the coming years.
"Every day, we perform around 30 to 40 flights transporting medicines and diagnostic samples across various parts of the country," said Ankit Kumar, founder of Skye Air Mobility. The startup has partnered with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences under the PM Ayushman Bharat Yojana to deliver essential medicines and diagnostics to remote areas. Kumar also mentioned that one of their drones for Flipkart Healthcare Plus recently completed a 104 km journey in West Bengal, carrying up to five kilograms of medicines.
