Craft Exhibition in Jammu & Kashmir
In order to revive crafts in the Jammu & Kashmir region, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir organized an exhibition in Srinagar focusing on showcasing the advancements of crafts and to support the artisan population. Speaking about the decision of the government to host the exhibition, Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director, Handicrafts and Handlooms, Kashmir said that the state government arranged the exhibition to help artisans, highlight handicraft art and boost export trade. A range of products including shawls, walnut goods, chain stitching, willow wicker, paper mache, woolens, and traditional food were on display. According to Shah, art business in Kashmir depends on tourism and exhibitions are vital to aid artists as well as promote the development of handicraft sector in the state.
Artisan community in Jammu & Kashmir had been facing some real tough times with the coronavirus induced lockdowns and overall economic slowdown and to revitalize the ailing artisan community and promote tourism, the government went ahead with organizing the show.
