Agri Expo Connects India to the World, Virtually
The onset of the pandemic has propped up Indiaβs conventional agriculture sector and we are witnessing many firsts, especially in horticulture production. The farming communities from various parts of India have been exporting their horticulture produce for the first time to overseas countries with collaborative efforts from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the government.
Taking the journey forward, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Department of Commerce in partnership with APEDA organized a two-day virtual event from July 29 onwards to connect agri exporters from remote parts of India to international buyers from USA, UAE, Japan, etc.
A record 197 exhibitors from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh participated in the virtual trade fair. The event had a footfall of over 300 visitors and provided a platform for small sellers from remote locations to export their produce.
The spotlight was on agricultural products from five categories β spices and tea, food grains and agro-products, fruits and vegetables, dry fruits and processed food. Leading supermarkets such as Spinney, Walmart and Lulu also participated in the interactive sessions.
